We are offering a half day introductory course into ultrasound, including how to perform a FAST scan (Focussed Assessment with Sonography in Trauma).
Bedside ultrasound is rapidly becoming mainstream in A&E, ITU and even on the wards. This is a great opportunity to familiarise ourselves with ultrasound, something that will be of value for those who are interested in careers in acute specialties such as A&E, ITU, anaesthetics, or even radiology.
We will give you a brief theoretical introduction and then teach you how to perform a FAST scan, something that is used daily during trauma calls in the ED. The vast majority of the time will be spent practicing with the ultrasound machines available as this is the best way to learn.
In return for providing the teaching we ask that you kindly participate in a small research study we are conducting. This would involve you being scanned by two A&E doctors, something that will last 20-30 minutes per person. The information sheet for the study is attached.
We will be running the courses on the 13th of May and 7th of July. Spaces are limited to allow maximum hands on practice for those who attend. Certificates signed by Prof. Harris will be provided which you can use for our portfolios.
If you are interested please contact Dr. Ben Bussmann on firstname.lastname@example.org for further information.
We look forward to hearing back from you.
