Courses, courses, courses. We found a really good one
If any 4th or 5th years feel they need some help with presenting their findings, answering examiners’ questions, and communication stations, we highly recommend Dr Nigel Giam’s 2 day Mentor OSCE course.
We just did it, and it was so good that we felt compelled to share the experience with others.
Why's it so good? Participants form small groups to discuss cases with guidance from Dr Giam and his colleagues, and then get viva’d by him. Professional actors also attend to give one-on-one communication OSCEs. The feedback and the guidance notes are also excellent. The course is capped at 24 people so you’ll get individual attention. At times scary, always insightful, by the end of the course's massive learning curve, we were actually relishing OSCEs.
Beyond that, there's lots of inspiration, great advice and enthusiasm that is the perfect antidote to strike and exam fatigue.
