How are second year medical students learning about patient-centred practice in community-based medical education?
Information for participants:
The study is about patient-centred care in the Extending Patient Contact (EPC) module. This is a qualitative study which will involve two researchers facilitating focus groups of 4-10, 2nd year medical students for up to one hour. Patient-centred care is learned through experience rather than being part of the taught curriculum and it is difficult to assess how it is learned. This study is intended to find out how students learn about patient centred care with a view to informing educators, tutors, medical students, patients and policy makers about some of the barriers and conflicts as well as the enabling and promoting factors for patient-centred care.
