Lecture title: ‘Old wine in new bottles: rediscovering the importance of vitamin D for human’
Professor Adrian Martineau, Clinical Professor of Respiratory Infection & Immunity, will be holding his Inaugural Lecture on Thursday, 17th March 2016 at 5.30pm. The lecture will be followed by a free drink reception in the Old Library, Garrod Building,Whitechapel. The lecture will be held in The Perrin Lecture Theatre, Whitechapel Campus.
Vitamin D – ‘the sunshine vitamin’ – was used to treat tuberculosis in the pre-antibiotic era. Until recently, its mechanisms of action were poorly understood. In this lecture I will tell the story of how the effects of vitamin D on the immune system were unravelled, and describe future directions for research into the broader effects of vitamin D on human health.

Adrian Martineau is Clinical Professor of Respiratory Infection and Immunity at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. His research focuses on the effects of vitamin D on human health.
