At the start of last year, through the massive interest we had on Twitter and Facebook, we quickly realised that there was a gap in the market for a regional London-wide SEM society for not just medical students, but also for physiotherapy, sports science, chiropractic students and many more. Whilst we are affiliated to BLSA and based at Bart’s and The London, our society extends to all of the other London medical schools, as well as other universities in London. To ensure this, we have representatives based at all of these institutions. We are proud of our unique position for extended reach within this relatively new and growing medical speciality.
Thus far, we have hosted two very successful events, with talks titled: • “Concussion In Sport: Is It Taken Seriously Enough?” – Dr. Ademola Adejuwon • “Exercise Medicine – You Are An Exercise Monkey” – Dr. Mike Loosemore • “Doping In Professional Sport” – Professor Andy Miah
During our events, all attendees have the opportunity to network with those who are at the forefront of the SEM profession. As a society, we urge all of our members to present their work at national and international conferences. Over the past year, we have formed tight bonds with national SEM bodies and SEM professionals, which will definitely help LSEMS; the future for this society looks very bright, and there is a hardworking committee who will ensure that the society goes from strength to strength.
