Chinese Calligraphy Workshop

  • Blomeley 1 QMSU Hub (map)

Barts and the London is celebrated by its vibrant and diverse community of students. To advocate further understanding and harmony between students of different culture backgrounds, the Barts Language and Culture Society and the Barts Arts and Photography Society are proud to co-host a series of student-led workshops based on the archaic art of Chinese calligraphy and painting by using the classical four treasures of the study: the brush, ink, paper and ink stone.

In the first workshop, students will be taught about the humble origins the art and the eight basic brush strokes which will form the bread and butter for Chinese calligraphy. They will have the opportunity to exercise their newly honed skills on writing basic characters or even phrases in Chinese.

We think these workshops would be a wonderful experience and opportunity for students to get to know each other, and also to know more about a foreign culture that they might have little exposure to.
