At Griffin House we hold events (both in Shaftesbury lodge - the local sheltered housing, and at Toynbee Hall in Aldgate). The aim of both is to help reduce social isolation in the elderly population of the East End.

At Toynbee Hall Volunteering, we meet on Wednesday afternoons for a couple of hours. Typically, we drink tea, play games and chat about everything from the Cray twins to the latest football news with local residents who visit the day centre.

It is a great opportunity to meet people from the local area and learn more about East London. We are also the only group at BL which gives you the chance to volunteer with the elderly. Volunteering at Toynbee will also give you an idea of what we do at, and whether you will enjoy living at Griffin House.

At Griffin House we consist of 23 students that live together in subsidised accommodation in Poplar. We work together to organise and participate in these events and the befriending schemes. In return we get to live as part of a fantastic community of students both medics and dentist, graduate and school leavers. There are 6 flats are arranged into groups of 3 or 4 students.

Each year we open applications to replace those final year students that sadly have to leave us! To learn more about Griffin House go to our website see link:
