DAWSON + FLOYER TESTIMONIAL:

“So I stayed in both halls quite a lot because I was assigned to halls in Dawson but my best friend lived in floyer.

For Dawson:

The rooms are a great size with nice and big kitchens. Barbican is a generally a safe area and its location makes it a nice place to live if you want to explore London in the evening (easy to walk to st Paul’s etc). There’s security within the housing building (in the foyer). Dawson is also placed within a gated square.
Parking for visitors was sometimes an issue since the only real parking option is on site and requires permission.

For Floyer:

Floyer is right next to the Whitechapel campus which is where medics, dentists and Global Health students have most of their lectures. It is also right next to Whitechapel library which is big and has good opening hours.
The rooms are a decent size although ‘large’ rooms vary in size so someone might get a room double the size of yours despite both being ‘large’. Foyer also has nice bathrooms and there’s easy access to all flats (so good for socialising) unlike Dawson where each flat requires keycard access.
Parking can also be easier to find at Floyer as you can just use street parking.
There is security for Floyer too that is based in the nearby Garrod building.
The kitchens are smaller than most at Dawson…”

Dawson Testimonial 1:

“The non-sink rooms (that face the lawn) are great in my opinion, and have a really lovely view and massive windows so lots of light.

Kitchens were good, not as chaotic space wise as the sink containing rooms (which are at the back of the building) and bathrooms the same - I basically never saw anyone in there because you all have different routines etc...

The corridors are great for playing hockey in, and the ironing room is great for a film night if someone has a projector or you can steal one.

Distance to uni was actually my favourite, I loved walking with my buddy and honestly some of my best memories are from chatting absolute rubbish to and from uni.

West Smithfield library is the absolute best because it’s near, 24hrs in the basement and gives you a change of scene when you need it.

The garden/square/lawn outside Dawson is also great for working in or chilling when it’s sunny, and the gym is alright for what you need. Also you’re never going to be that central for that kinda rent! I  think that’s it hahaa... but yes basically Dawson is the best and I loved my time there to bits”

FLOYER TESTIMONIAL 1:

“So for floyer the main thing is about convenience - it’s close to all things on campus and a 15 min walk to Mile End for the Anatomy sessions.

You can have a night at the student union (e.g. tables) and be back home in less than 5 mins. You can wake up very late and still turn up to the lectures and PBL sessions on time as it’s all within a 5 minute radius. Next to the garrod (open 24/7) and to the library which is open 8:30am-12am I believe so convenient studying locations for all at good times.

Location is not as nice as Dawson and it doesn’t have a lift which could be a bit annoying when carrying suitcases and stuff.”

Dawson Testimonial 2:

“Dawson is about a 35 minute walk to campus or a 20-30 minute ride on the tube. You can also take up riding a bike which is usually the fastest route to get to uni (15mins from Dawson to Whitechapel).

Dawson is also closer to Central London so the views are amazing and the rooms are at a price that is unbeatable for the location (if it weren’t student accommodation you would be paying a lot more for the location).”

FLOYER TESTIMONIAL 2:

“I need to recommend the housing services for always being very quick and responsive with any problems we faced. They bought us a brand new fridge (which was huge by the way) on the third day.

The rooms are extreme warm (from my experience) even though some people say it was cold. Also, there was always hot water in the showers and it was always clean from my experience - although it really depends on the people you live with.

The rooms vary depending on what you get, but even the regular ones aren't tiny. They are small but it's pretty comfortable.

This is my own experience though and someone else might disagree :)”

Dawson Testimonial 3:

“I loved my time at Dawson. Although you had to commute a bit further than Floyer, it was worth it! As a student, you can get a discounted railcard for travel so it’s not as expensive to take the tube from Dawson to Whitechapel and the tube only takes about 20-25 mins (although you have to time it so you don’t miss the morning tube).

I also loved the commute itself as it felt like a proper London experience and I could plug in my music and eat my breakfast on my way into lectures.

If you want you can also just walk 30-40mins or cycle 15mins to Whitechapel. Dawson is also very close (5mins) to West Smithfield campus where clinical skills teaching happens and where there’s a small library (with IT facilities).

The rooms are nice with very nice kitchens that are large and great for gatherings with all your friends. The lawn outside is also fantastic - it is gated off so the public can’t access it and you can revise there or eat your food there or even chill/play games there with friends when the sun is out…

Dawson also has a gym although this is a small one but it is useful to have and its membership is cheaper than the main gym (from what I remember).

Finally, the location is amazing. You can walk to the river and Tate Modern in 10-15mins, The British Museum and Oxford Street are also easily accessible. It is definitely the prime location for visiting London. The rent you pay is also amazing for the location - you won’t find any private accommodation in this location for that low a price!”

FLOYER TESTIMONIAL 3:

“Floyer is very close to campus (2mins from lecture theatre, 1 min from lib). It has a nice courtyard you can chill in with friends (we used to have a babminton net) and it’s a perfect opportunity to meet other people and make friends. I always had hot water for shower and always had available showers in my flat (this depends on flatmates though and how often they shower of course).

Whitechapel isn’t as central to London so you have to travel a little further for all the touristy stuff. The bathrooms/toilets are shared but this is the same in Dawson.

Some rooms are very big, some other rooms not as big – I recommend the large rooms.

Generally it was an amazing experience – would recommend and would choose again”
