WELCOME TO BL SPORT

Barts and The London is represented in sport across the country, by our 24 competitive teams. There are a range of abilities in each of the teams, starting from beginners to national players. Sport at Barts and The London is open to everyone, no matter your course or ability. You can find out all about our amazing clubs and how to join by scrolling below and clicking on clubs of interest.

Taster Sessions

During freshers fortnight, all of our sports clubs organise a FRESHER ONLY taster session where you can give the sport a go. It’s ideal if you’ve never played before, but even if you have, it’s the perfect opportunity to start your sporting journey at Barts and The London.

Merger Cup

The sporting highlight of the year is our varsity event against Queen Mary, known as The Merger Cup. Every March, teams from BL and QM are pitted against each other in a week-long competition to win points for their institution. The event is great fun, and an opportunity for everyone to showcase their sporting development from the year. In 2022 the Merger Cup got away from us (by 1 point), so we’re determined as ever to bring the cup back to its rightful home!

The Club Sport Financial Support Fund subsidises costs associated with sports participation for students in financial hardship. The fund can go towards helping with the costs of Club Membership fees, Travel, Equipment and Competition entries for individual students whose financial circumstances prevent them from participating in sport.
