EXTRA-CURRICULAR CONSIDERATIONS AFFECTING PLACEMENT (ECCP)
ECCP is a process to allow certain students to be placed on clinical placements nearer to their extracurricular commitments that require them to be regularly on, or around, campus or in a particular geographical location.
Applications for the 2025/26 academic year have not yet opened.
ECCP Information
Your application will be considered by the current BLSA President, VP London, VP Barts, Welfare Rep, Senior IHSE Rep, Societies Rep, Volunteering Rep and Sports Rep.
You should hear back in mid to late July. However, a response may come slightly later in early August.
APPEALS
If you disagree with the decision made you will be able to appeal. You will be contacted on how to do this closer to the time. The process will involve explaining why you disagree and a new committee, made up of the New BLSA Board who have taken office from August 1st. This will include the same roles of BLSA President, VP London, VP Barts, Welfare Rep, Senior IHSE Rep, Societies Rep, Volunteering Rep and Sports Rep.
OTHER QUESTIONS
If you have any questions, please email eccp@bartslondon.com.
Eligibility Criteria
Updated 2023/24
There are 3 categories under which an individual can apply for ECCP:
Category A:
Holding a substantial role within an affiliated student group which requires regular availability on or around campus (Whitechapel, West Smithfield, Mile End or Charterhouse Square) for a substantial part of the academic year or rotation.
For this category, the student group must fill in the application on behalf of the role they wish to award ECCP to.
Category B:
Holding professional athlete or competitor status, or extracurricular activities, that are external to the BLSA and require regular availability in a particular geographical location for a substantial part of the academic year or rotation.
For this category, the student themselves need to submit their own ECCP form.
Category C:
Holding a BLSA rep position which requires regular availability on or around campus (Whitechapel, West Smithfield, Mile End or Charterhouse Square) for a substantial part of the academic year or rotation.
For this category, the student themselves need to submit their own ECCP form.
Application guidance
An ECCP Application will receive one of the following responses:
Grant ECCP
Grant ECCP for a particular rotation
Reject ECCP
This decision is based on the following criteria:
There are a finite number of ECCP places the BLSA can offer, so a successful ECCP form should contain the following information to help us ensure the places are given to the most in need of ECCP:
The student should demonstrate a need to be on campus for a regular, extensive period of time. Please note that unless stated why, it will be assumed that meetings can be joined digitally via online video calling and hence will not usually be accepted as a reason why someone is needed on campus.
The student should highlight what point (or points) during the academic year they are needed on campus for. If an individual is only needed regularly on campus for a particular section of the year, ECCP may be offered for that corresponding rotation only.
The student should highlight the length of rotations that they will be placed at. Students on longer rotations will be prioritised for ECCP.
The student should highlight the impact that not receiving ECCP will have on their year ahead. Decisions will be made in order to minimise negative impact on students where available.
