Somebody approaches you to report an incident which is happening right now

  • Ensure the immediate safety of the victim- for example you may stay with the victim whilst you get somebody else to go and fetch further help

  • Refer to the four D's of bystander training: (https://www.ecosia.org/images?q=4+d%27s+of+bystander+intervention#id=9FD8698E3E35C31408125CE54D3A960FBFB26E8C)

  • If in Griff/ Drapers report to barstaff and security (whilst ensuring the continued safety of the victim)

  • Aftercare: make the victim aware of the various support services available to them (at bottom of this email)

  • Can be reported to Sophie as welfare rep via email

  • As part times officers we are not trained to counsel/ mentor these students ourselves as tempting as it is- however I believe it is ok for us to encourage them to seek support from these sources and accompany to any appointments etc if they wish
